We use Mazzucchelli frames because we believe our sunglasses should make a statement of who you are – a person who cares about the environment.
Our entire frame is handmade from 100% biodegradable cellulose acetate, a special kind of natural 'plastic' made from natural fibers, such as cotton, wood and some other plant fibers. Our Malibu and Dana Sunglasses are made from Italian Mazzuchelli frames.
Mazzucchelli 1849, an Italian Company based in Castiglione Olona, is a leader in the manufacturing of sheets made of Cellulose Acetate.
Many common plastics decompose over timescales of decades to centuries, but we use cellulose acetate, which decomposes in months in the Ocean, as an alternative to conventional plastics.
Acetate is very strong when compared to normal oil based plastics. Therefore, our sunglasses are both high impact resistant and resilient.
There is no denying that climate change affects every aspect of our lives—even eyes care. At some point in the upward trajectory of levels of heat, pollution and UV emissions, protective sunglasses will transition from an option to a health necessity. Usually, high protection sunglasses are very expensive, but we want to offer not only an affordable solution, but also sustainable.
